newyorkquitcallin asked: thank you for posting that beautiful photo of Rob Amberg in Mars Hill. i went to Mars Hill College, and despite the major lack of anything to do in MH, Madison County is a seriously under-appreciated gem in our fair state. it's a really beautiful place any time of the year and the farmer's market is fantastic.

and as a shameless plug, the Southern Appalachian Repertory Theatre performs on the campus in the summertime in Owen Theatre. i work there every summer and it's some mighty fine theatre, IMHO.

I really like Mars Hill College. I almost transferred there, and I regret not going. And agreed—Madison County is beautiful! I think Hot Springs is one of the most beautiful places.

Want to know what happens to a factory town when the factory closes? Stop by here. Surprising variety of architecture, including the county courthouse (at center in photo). Despite Marshall’s small size, it remains the Madison County seat.
